In Loving Memory
JOHN JOSEPH SEARCY
July 9th, 1951 to March 13th, 2023

Love and life's purest energy,
the heart song elevated, a spirit still tangible

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Maryetta and (Arthur) John Searcy. Beloved husband and best friend to Maureen Searcy for 48 years. Devoted and loving father to Sara, Evan and Emma. Kind and caring Father-in-law to Walt, Nicolle and Zac. Playful and proud Papa to Collin, Walter, Alden, Ella, Violet and Vivienne. Loving brother to his wonderful siblings.

John was a modern day renaissance man with a passion for creating, learning and truth-seeking. There wasn't a problem he couldn't solve or a task he couldn't tackle. For those lucky enough to have been touched by his gentle compassion, vivacious spirit and witty humor, he will be severely missed. We will always remember John for his many intricate ideas and for the visionary that he was. His brilliance of thought was evidenced by his beautiful lyrics and spoken words.

A self-taught musician and songwriter, John has released three professional albums and written and recorded many other original songs. All of which are beautiful and true, just like John himself. John's most recent songs of his voice, lyrics, guitar and ever-tapping foot are his family's favorites. Family gathered joyfully, twirling kids at his feet and the rhythm of his spirit have provided perpetual happiness to him and our family.

His passion for music was only surpassed by his love for our family and friends. Blessed are we to have had such a remarkable man who cared for and loved us all. John's hysterical humor, wit and Peter Pan like personality entertained all. His absence in our daily lives as Mr. Fix It, the finder, the encouraging and supportive friend, the ranting exaggerator, the inventive and occasionally truthful storyteller, the super silly, crazy charismatic, questioner of all things, intuitive and inspiring family man will be felt greatly. His family will miss morning turtle pancakes, eggs, giggles and goofiness, tight hugs, philosophies, priceless life lessons, and a respect and understanding vastly uncommon.

His enthusiasm for life is to be continuously admired, marveled and strived for. His songs and melodies will play alongside the many cherished memories we have made as a family, forever in our hearts.

MUSCIAN, LEATHER CRAFTSMAN, CHIMNEY SWEEP AND LIFELONG ENTREPRENEUR

A happy soul in his handmade boots John taught himself sewing and leather craft. With his natural talent he began making hats, shoes, bags, and more. He sold at summer fair and other popular Cincinnati events.  Some of his hats were featured in the film, Fiddler On The Roof. In 1974 he opened "The Dragon's Back" where he, Maureen and friends sold artisan made goods.
Later, he opened "The Oasis" a leather shop on downtown 8th st.
He had a lifetime passion and love for music. A self taught musician, he started out on the accordion and moved on to drums and the guitar. He made his public debut at around 16, playing the drums with local bands. Self taught guitarist and pianist, John's passion for music grew. In 1988, he worked at Jewel Studio and began to learn recording and was able to do some of his own songs. John went on to record 3 full albums.
In 1981 after reading an article in MOTHER EARTH NEWS, he become a Chimney Sweep up on the rooftops high above the city. He opened a wood stove store and sold and installed wood stoves and chimney systems. John did all kinds of chimney and fireplace work including selling stainless steel piping systems and educating others on the safety and benefits of wood stoves. In 1989, the woods stove store began to evolve into a gift and decor store. Bizarre Bazaar was born. Still around 34 years later, the shop still show's John's creativity and ability to make something from anything.
